Logan's Run This SciFi movie marks the turn of the century in Germany. How so? Once in the 70's German television let the viewers choose between Logan's Run and Grosse Freiheit Nr.7, a film with Hans Albers, a famous star from the 40s... nobody in school had any hope that there would be Logan's Run on TV on Saturday. And then there was... by a vast majority. So we knew that the old farts where all dead in their armchairs :) Favorite scene: Jenny Agutter in a very short skirt in the styrofoam ice cave SOLD OUT! J.R.R. Tolkien - The Lord Of The Rings You may have heard that this is the antagon of modern fantasy. What you might not have heard is, while many books owe to The Lord of the Rings but have their own charm, you can not buy another book like this. It is a singular masterpiece not only of the genre but of the 20th century. $22.37 Buy in Germany DM 78,- |
The Andromeda Strain Michael Crichton's first. Favorite scene: When they cut off the guy's finger and his blood is like sand. (I guess this was mighty impressive when I was 5) $12.74 English PAL version DM 38,99 |
Battlestar Galactica Theme You might say that this was just a cheap TV space opera. But in fact this is the only cheap TV space opera ever made! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy The day I had built my own detector radio I plugged in the ear phone, carefully aligned the ferrite core, adjusted the condensator and listened anxiously. Suddenly there was a voice... it talked about a pot whale appearing in space and then mutating into a flower pot (or vice versa). It was the BBC radio play Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... I guess I was the first boy in Germany to read the Hitchhiker :) Don't Panic! $14.99 Buy in Germany DM 12,90 |
Lair of the White Worm No this is not a noteworthy movie though it's quite hilarious. The more interesting thing about the movie is that Ken Russell seems to share my obsession for female forearm hair ;) Favorite scene: Catherine Oxenberg in a SM bondage scene, backlit! Maybe I can get my wife to buy the DVD because Hugh Grant is in it... hehe $25.48 German PAL version DM 28,99 |
DAF - Alles Ist Gut The German forefathers of Techno. If that's too generic a description, figure a frenetic sequencer and a powerful disco drum, garnished with sexy German grunts. Pure Energy. Favorite tracks: Der Mussolini, Der Räuber und der Prinz $15.19 Buy in Germany DM 23,99 |
Sparks - Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins I thought I told you to wait in the car! The Sparks are able to make an opera out of an overheard conversation... John Dowland - Collected Works A boy and his lute. If you think that pop music was invented in the 20th century - this is pop music from the 16th. It's somewhat demanding to hear the groove in lute music if you're not accustomed to it... so I recommend the recordings of Anthony Rooleys Consort of Musicke, they arranged the songs for voices - with a vengeance. Favorite Tracks: Unquiet Thoughts, Burst Forth My Tears MIDI sample: Forlorn Hope Song $76.92 Buy in Germany DM 145,99 Or get the First Booke Of Songes first - not quite as pricey as the collected works - but only available in Germany) SOLD OUT! |
